Always Being Made New – an invitation to conversation

The theme for the 25th anniversary of our church – the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America – is simple and very Lutheran: always being made new. That’s a promise we claim as a church of the Reformation – God is never done with us, as individuals, as congregations, or as the wider church. Being disciples of Jesus is never a stagnant affair!
As we continue to live into the question of how the Spirit
is making us new in this 21st century context, I invite you into a
continuing conversation. What does it
mean for us to be made new – specifically as congregations and ministries of
the ELCA on the territory of the Rocky Mountain Synod? To what do we need to be paying attention?
This 15-minute video is one contribution to that conversation. It’s certainly not the
final word, but rather represents some reflections that were shaped by my visit
with the Utah Conference last spring.
I’d welcome your feedback as well as your own thoughts and experiences. You might find the video to be a great starting-place for discussions in forums, Bible study groups, or meetings.
Yours in Faith,
Bishop Jim Gonia
PS – Reflections on the recent Churchwide Assembly from our
RMS voting members will be coming soon!
