"Happy and tired and excited all together"

Yesterday in Madagascar for us was a beach day. We have been in Mahajanga since Wednesday night and very, very busy. The bus trip was very good and the scenery was remarkable. It took us about 14 hours total to make the trip, including stops for lunch and petrol along the way. We arrived close to 9 p.m.
As we were approaching the city we were met by a delegation from the synod about 10 km out of town and we were then escorted to the church for a welcoming service. There were pastors and quite a few members of the church at Antanimalandy to greet us, but many members had to go home to be ready for work the next day. They had been there since 3 p.m. waiting for us!
The last few days have been very busy. One group has spent a day getting to know the city. We have had a meeting with the Regional Governor whom I had met in 2011. There have been meetings with the synod pastors, synod leaders and staff of Shalom, the Lutheran ministry with Islamic peoples in Madagascar.

Half of our group was hosted by Malagasy families for two nights and many friendships were made. Saturday, then, was a day at the beach where the Malagasies planned a “beach party” for us. Sunday, July 7, we visited four churches for worship and four of us are preaching. The synod gave us a choir concert on Sunday afternoon, and then we packed for the next part of our trip.
We are doing well – happy and tired and excited all together. We keep you in our prayers and we ask you to do the same for us and for our Malagasy companions.
Veloma tompoko (farewell, my friend)!
